Goebbels lives!

The Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert, has said:

"We are dealing with brutal terrorist organizations devoid of the compassion and tolerance which characterize us."

Writing like this is not going to get you into a newspaper "position".

But it will get you into an awful lot of trouble.

Safer in the University.

It certainly won't get me a Freedom Medal from George Bush.

Now we have Tzipi Livni, Israel's foreign minister, saying: "There is no humanitarian crisis in the [Gaza] Strip, and therefore there is no need for a humanitarian truce."

This lady, I believe, aspires to be Israel's next prime minister. She evidently possesses a lifetime's supply of rose-coloured spectacles.

It is difficult to say anything as a non-Jew because the Zionists have in effect "copyrighted" the narrative about the WW II mass-murders in Europe of many peoples, by the Nazis. But the psychological facts perhaps are something like this: A terrified and heartbroken surviving remnant handed on their stories to younger generations out of an entirely understandable desire that the lost ones at least be remembered. There is as well the entirely do-able task of bringing the remaining actual perpetrators to book for their crimes. However, some of the heirs and assigns of these stories as in any statistical population are morally insane and, hence, adventitious. They make political advantage for themselves of the horror of History and, in effect, perpetuate the very vileness they profess to be against. Deeper speculations as to the need by a collective to redeem its potency by doing to /someone/ what was done to their forebears, in this case for example in Warsaw sixty-six years ago, may have some salience. But arguments from insight are actually not helpful at this stage as, if adduced in an untimely manner to persons in a manic phase and egging one another on, they only will -- can only --incite /automatic/ or neurotic rejection. The Israeli collective has something to work out of its system through the "leadership" of its right wing and that is all there is to it. It is but another manifestation of the echoing Hitler horror, it is the enduring problem of Evil and all of that is only redeemable where there is an authentic change of heart. For good or ill, this last only can happen as an individual human matter, and when ones prestige needs are at stake, as in the case of Ms Livni (or, Mr Judo Expert Vladimir "Klaus Barbie" Putin's in the case of the cold children of Europe for that matter), this is the more difficult to attain. The male power needs of figures of all genders, including such personalities as Mr Cheney and Mrs Obama, mean that no one easily can bear to climb down. In the worst case, ordering yet /more/ bombardments and spousal makeover projects is actually easier!

If we want to go on living in an open and even partially democratic society, we should fight tooth and nail against the "copyrighting" [or suppression] of any historical narrative, or word, by particular interests or factions.

Free speech is indivisible. Either it exists, or it doesn't. As John Stuart Mill said in his essay 'On Liberty': "If all mankind minus one were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind."

Some good points here.

Always responsible are those who carry out and those who support them. If the Jews of the world support what their Israeli counterparts do, then there cannot be any discrimination among them. Both are to blame.

And that I know very few Jews in the world have dared to protest against the Israeli State's actions.

In the interest of Justice I must add that there are some important voices inside the Zionist state that have dared to protest its government's decisions in Palestine.

There have been reactions in Europe against Jewish establishments, not many fortunately. A strong statement by European Jews on their position re Palestine is imperative, I should say.

European Jews win Nobel Prizes.

anticant said...

Well, why not? Nobel has been responsible for blowing up more human beings than any other individual.

Do you think that, knowing this, he slept any easier because he had instituted his hilariously named 'peace prize'?

He always strikes me as a supreme humbug.

It, the prize, is a humbug, Anticant, it is. Nobel did not know the human being, or did he?
