Amnesiac America

US Defence Secretary Robert Gates "ruled out the use of US military force in Georgia, saying there was 'no prospect' of American troops being deployed in the region. Military personnel will only be used in a humanitarian capacity to deliver aid to civilians, Gates said."

They said that about Vietnam, didn't they?

Ah, relax yerselves! The deal is that the Yank Army is /already/ ...ed & far from home in Mespot, and that Rooshia is being groomed to "beat the US" out of the region in a series of these coat-trailing staged Armenian-style Bush gaffes (all to be piled at President Obama's porthole!), so that the ex-Red Brothers can take over & cover the Western Approaches from Lake Baikal to Afghanistan and Kuwait, whilst the US Navy plays silly bastards with the Han Chinee from the Pacific side of things. Grand strategy, lads, GRAND strategy....

(God's Hooks, I am GOOD, I actually ass-tound myself sometimes, "Pauly" Wolfowitz, you bitch -- did you get /any/ of that? Send the cheque to Eagle Lake quick-like and I won't blab about ANY of this New Twat ass-tuteness of yours to anybody, and ooxvfBob's yer bunghole!)

Bodo has it right.
The only recourse the yankees have is to big boomers.
It was interesting to see the disconnect between the military guys and the political guys.

I am pretty damn sure that the ACTUAL soldiers speak with their opposite numbers, informally.

It is greatly to be hoped that WAY behind the scenes the actually wise are in contact, too.... In this alone may lie any hope of at least buffering the consequences.

If only we knew who the actually wise are nowadays. They surely are there, but invisible. In my younger days there were some - just a few - around, and one felt much more secure knowing that even if they were devious old so-and-sos, Churchill and Roosevelt were at the helm.
