Nutty, and flaky at the edges

Tony Blair complains that as prime minister he didn't feel able to talk openly about his religious beliefs, in case people thought he was a nutter. What escapes him is that millions of us think he is a nutter regardless of his religious beliefs.

Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Canterbury moans [to a Muslim magazine!] that Americans are deluded by their “chosen national myth...that what happens in America is very much at the heart of God’s purpose for humanity”, and doesn't draw the obvious conclusion. But then he wouldn't, would he?

"Not In My Name" says God

Another delusion: Blair and Bush clearly DID do what they did "in God's name". Any self-respecting God - if he existed - would have hurled a thunderbolt at these blasphemers. But needless to say, he didn't.

Whatever...but it certainly wasn't "In John Smith's Name" - Bliar's previous, late-lamented boss :

AT Any rate, the whole boiling centres on the future...and, beyond. At one point, America and the constitutional democratic experiment WAS the /dernier cri/ in the World. Now, of course, as constitutions like condoms /are/ material things, that phase has simply worn-out and sprung numerous leaks & seepages; humanity have done all they can with it and now must confront the thorny constants of fear & anger, greed, lust & laziness, all in new social and political forms. Blair's only 'sin' was to try to disguise himself as some sort of devotee and so sneak into the NEXT round. That is rank schmelzing... but, we all like to claim that we know what's next -- and BEST!

"We all like to" survive and thrive, Emmett...and then not to disappear into that vortex of oblivion travelled by so many...

IT Begins with individuals of course, at least in the West, so we perceive and say. Thus, many of my ageing american baby bum-cronies now, myself included, are meditating on their looming preference for the option of euthanasia, come the day; and, not a few as well are handing over business- and other assets in advance of the black camel.

WHAT Really is new in History, what History awaits with some interest therefore, is to see whether contemporary ephemeral 'powers', collectively, will be able to take up a new pattern; and, to to manage as well decline as did the English since 1945.

ON The thorny point of the persistence of 'personal' identity, the Sufis contend that this of course goes forward on other gauges, or scales, of the physical fabric of the Universe. The alchenical process at present is concerned therefore with the purging away of erroneous perceptions resulting from this necessary stage of molecular embodiment....
